Hi, I'm Karissa and I'm Addicted to Pinterest

31 Mar

It's true! I'm soooo addicted to Pinterest. I check it constantly and cannot wait til they launch their iPhone app. Google Reader used to fill my desire to quickly consume web content tailored to my tastes but it's definitely coming in second lately. I am a bit of a bookmark hoarder though. I star the heck out my Google Reader feed and I use Xmarks so I can bookmark everywhere. There's no surprise that I love Pinterest. I really like being able to visually collect the little bits of inspiration from all over the web.

Pinterest is a visual bookmarking site with the idea of a pin board behind it. Imagine creating an inspiration board of recipes to try, crafts to make, decorating ideas, or a subject you are researching. It is like clipping newspaper and magazine articles minus the paper clutter! And if that isn't great enough from an organizational stand-point, you can also scroll through everybody else's pins for even more inspiration. The Everything, DIY and Kids categories are my go-tos for browsing.

You can create "boards" of your own, apply tags, like "pins", search and follow other people's boards. It seems like lot of bloggers that I read are starting to use it so some familiar names are popping up and you can also search for your personal friends. Personally, I've talked my sister and her fiancé into using it and am trying to get my Mom on board. (Megan's another story...she doesn't bookmark! Ack!)

The downside is that it's still by invitation only. Also, the site also has a tendency to get really slow at times and some of their features are still being developed. I chalk it up as a work in progress and hit refresh a few times.

Here is my profile, if you are interested. (Wow, we are getting so personal here! Sharing bookmarks!). I have to go surf Pinterest now...

We'll get back in the swing of things here soon but for now check out the great links we found out on the web this week:

First up, a little self promotion. Have you heard? Our mama mantras app is available in the app store! Whoohooo!! Kudos to Megan for pulling all the long hours and really pushing that project through to the end. We're so happy it made it through the review process without being rejected and are even more excited to see it listed in the store. You can pick it up for .99 cents in the app store.

The iPad Project: How it's Going is like a mini state of the union covering how things are going 5 week after the iPad launch.

Both of us are lucky enough to work remotely a few days a week. Lifehacker recently ran an article about staying focused when working remotely.

Love the Make Your Own Art ideas over at Oh Dee Doh.

I've been poking around all over the $5 Dinnners website for new recipes and ideas about getting organized and batch cooking. So much good stuff on that site! I even dropped her a note about thawing frozen foods and she responded right away - so nice!

Have a great weekend!

I totally just wrote the date as August. Where did the last month go?! Oh well, either way, here are some goodies we found for you this week on the web:

Ask a bunch of moms what they'd tell themselves if they could go back before their first child was born and this is what you get - Reflections of Motherhood. Good stuff!

This one won't be funny to everybody but I was laughing all the way through the article - Worst Design or Programming Mistake You've Made over at Smashing Magazine. Particularly the one about the 88 meter (instead of millimeter) sized business card had me rolling!

Parent Hacks posted a great idea about using Google Voice for your emergency contact number. Clever!

Why We Are Addicted to Complaining and How to Stop It
was a good read over at Steady Mom.

We're looking forward to a great weekend - getting our families together, putting our heads together about mama mantras and heading to the fair. Hope you have a great one too!

Alright...link it up, yo!

In my daydreams that involve a cute yellow bungalow house with the big front porch on a tree lined street I also make adorable bento lunches for my children. Yah, I know. Check out the Bento Box Basics over at Alphamom for daydream fodder. I could look at Wendolonia's bento pictures forever.

Slow Cooker Baked Potatoes! Why didn't I think of that! Genius over at $5 Dinners. Totally going to give this a try.

I could find 100 excuses to buy a new baby carrier - ask my husband. The rundown of carriers over at Oh Dee Doh is great. I want a Boba!

Kind Over Matter
featured the great "http://www.kindcampaign.com/". Check it out - it's Good Stuff.

Have a great weekend!

It goes without saying, TGIF! Here's what we found interesting on the web this week:

Want an alternative to the tired old Evite? Check out the review of the new iPhone app POST over at Real Simple.

Lifehacker ran an article titled "How to Rebuild Your Attention Span and Focus". I starred it in my reader to come back because, well, I lack attention and focus and can't get through it right now. Seriously. Kind of pathetic.

Enjoy the weekend!
